The 2011-2012 school year will be my twelfth year of my teaching career. My entire teaching career has been in Region 13 at Memorial School. I taught grades 5 & 6 in the Integrated Day Program for the first five years, and I have been teaching fifth grade in the Contemporary Program since then. I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Eastern Connecticut State University. I later decided to go back to school and I earned a Master of Science in Education at the University of New Haven. Going into education was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the students in this age group. Fifth grade is an important year for students, especially at Memorial School. Students are not only beginning a new grade, they are entering a new school, and they are asked to be more independent and responsible. I strive to make students feel welcome in our school community. I feel that I have the opportunity to teach many “foundational” skills that my students can use as they continue on after fifth grade.
I look forward to a great year with my new class for the 2011-2012 school year.
